Russian Poker

Get a hand with a card combination that is stronger than the dealer’s hand!

About Game

The goal of Russian Poker is to collect a hand out of 5 or 6 cards with a value higher than the value of the dealer’s hand. The winning amount depends on the bet and the winning odds pre-assigned to the card combinations. One deck with 4 types of 52 cards (hearts (♥), diamonds (♦), spades (♠), clubs (♣)) is used for the game.

Russian Poker game rules

To begin the game you should make your initial bet by placing chips in the fi rst box (ANTE). You can play on up to four boxes at the same time. When playing on several boxes, you are only allowed to see one hand and the others will remain blind. In the case of blind hands, both bets – ANTE and BET – have to be made before the cards are dealt. The BET equals double the ANTE bet. The dealer will deal five cards to each player and for the dealer. The cards will be dealt face-down to the players, while the last (fifth) card for the dealer will remain face-up. In case of an open hand, after all cards have been dealt the player has the option of buying a sixth card or change 1 to 5 cards for a fee equalling the ANTE bet. Then you must consider your cards and decide whether you double your initial bet (by placing chips on the BET box) and continue to play or fold to surrender, losing the ANTE bet.

In case you have a hand with a Three of a Kind or a stronger combination, you have the option of taking insurance for your game in case the dealer has no game. The minimum insurance bet equals the ANTE bet; the maximum equals half of the payout for the combination. In case you have two combinations at the same time, you can take insurance for both combinations. For that your first combination needs to be at least a Three of a Kind or higher. Once the dealer has no game, the insurance bet is paid 1 to 1. The insurance is lost if the dealer has a game.

The minimum combination for the dealer is Ace/King. In case your combination is stronger than the dealer’s, the second BET is paid according to the payout table. The first ANTE bet is not paid. In case the dealer has a stronger combination than you do, both bets do not win. The only possible additional combination with five cards is Ace/King (counts with a Pair, Two Pair, Three of a Kind or Four of a Kind). When a sixth card is bought, you could get two separate combinations of five cards. Two combinations are paid when one of the combinations is higher than the dealer’s and at least one of the second combination’s cards is not part of the first combination. In case the dealer has no game, the player has two options:

  1. Only the initial ANTE bet is paid no matter what your hand is.
  2. You can buy a new card to replace the dealer’s highest card for a fee equalling the ANTE bet. The new card is always the first card of a fresh pack of cards. In case the new card is the same card (for example if the dealer changes Q and receives a Q back from the fresh pack) the changes will be repeated until any other card appears. In case the dealer still has no game, the ANTE bet will not be returned and the BET will not be paid.
